Description

Yoga can be life-changing, it's not just for bendy people and its benefits are available to everybody, at any time in life. Yoga postures can be done seated on a chair, lying down on the floor on a mat and standing up. Benefits include better stress management, improved mental health, self-care and coping mechanisms. Yoga is not a religion but because it promotes health it can change profoundly our outlook and way of life. Yoga is not only for super fit people either. Sustained yoga practice has been shown to improve the wellbeing of patients diagnosed as at risk of cardiovascular conditions or type 2 diabetes, people suffering anxiety or mild depression, it can help alleviate IBS and other digestive ailments, and promote stronger muscles and bones and improve balance. Yoga breathing techniques can be a useful tool for reducing tension and stress levels. Breathing exercises can slow down a racing mind, and help to reduce and control feelings of anxiety. Breath can be used to lower blood pressure and promote heart rate variability, to help alleviate pain and restore calm to a nervous system in need of rest and relaxation to promote healing and recovery. Sessions will help you to feel more grounded and relaxed, to find calm within the body and mind, mental focus, and ease of movement. No special clothing required, nor any previous experience, just an openness to learn, give it a go and try out how it can work for you. In March 2021 I started online yoga sessions with Karen. Over 10 weeks I observed my body becoming slowly more confident with physical movements that before would have triggered extreme knotting pain in my belly. It has been wonderful to start feeling I can test my body being put into positions without fear of instant pain or cramp. My need for pain killers has drastically reduced.'
